2009 Ford Fiesta ECOnetic

Bringing style and new levels of low-CO2 efficiency, Ford of Europe's most frugal car - the new Ford Fiesta ECOnetic - headed the Fiesta range at 2008 Paris Show.Powered by a specially-calibrated version of the 90 PS 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi, combined with coated Diesel Particulate Filter, Ford's most economical Fiesta can travel 100 kilometres using just 3.7 litres of fuel, on the EC Combined Cycle. This impressive fuel economy is matched with a class-leading CO2 output of 98 grams per kilometre - making Ford Fiesta ECOnetic the lowest CO2 vehicle in both its segment and Ford's European range.Compared to previous-generation Fiesta 1.6-litre TDCi, Ford Fiesta ECOnetic will use 160 litres less fuel over 20.000 km, offering genuine savings in daily driving, at a time when saving fuel means saving even more money.Extra-urban highway fuel economy is even better - Ford Fiesta ECOnetic requires just 3.2 litres to cover 100 kilometres. Yet this efficiency is not at the expense of driving quality or performance, with Ford Fiesta ECOnetic reaching 0-100 km/h in 12.3 seconds and a top speed of 178 kph. This is because Fiesta boasts the same attention to detail as earlier ECOnetic models, with improved aerodynamics, low rolling resistance tyres and enhanced lubrication to achieve best possible CO2 and fuel consumption. Lowered ride height and aerodynamic details such as wheel covers and wheel deflectors build on Fiesta's already streamlined drag co-efficient (Cd) of 0.33.At the same time, low rolling resistance tyres in an economical 175/65 R14 profile, a longer final drive gear ratio and special lubricants drive efficient powertrain performance, especially in highway cruising. In conjunction with energy partner BP, Ford has developed low-viscosity transmission and low-friction engine oils for its ECOnetic models.Such modifications create Ford Fiesta ECOnetic's class-leading efficiency, without sacrificing the driving quality, style or practicality of the core Fiesta range. It is not just the ECOnetic version of new Fiesta that benefits from Ford of Europe's sustainability efforts - all new Fiestas feature Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS), using far less fuel and engine power than a standard hydraulic power assist system, without compromising driving dynamics or steering feedback.Extensive use of high strength steels and a focus on weight saving has also reduced the mass of new Fiesta by 40 kilogrammes versus the previous model, despite improved safety equipment and sound insulation.Production powered by renewable sourcesSustainability has influenced not only new Fiesta's development, but also the facilities behind its manufacture. Ford's Dagenham Diesel Centre in Britain produces Duratorq TDCi engines for new Fiesta and derives all its electricity from renewable sources, with two dedicated wind turbines and plans for a third.Ford is also sourcing renewable electricity to cover the full electric power demand of its Fiesta manufacturing and engineering facilities in Cologne, Germany. Through this initiative, the company will reduce its CO2 emissions by 190,000 tonnes per year.Dr Wolfgang Schneider, Ford of Europe Vice President for Legal, Governmental and Environmental Affairs said, "The new Fiesta is the strongest example yet of Ford of Europe's commitment to and investment in sustainable mobility. Ford Fiesta ECOnetic is a compelling, stylish yet no-compromise choice for customers, offering class-leading low CO2 and genuine savings, while also benefitting from our investment in efficient production facilities."New Ford Fiesta ECOnetic completes an initial trilogy of production models in the company's European vehicle range that also includes a 139 g/km Ford Mondeo ECOnetic and a 115 g/km Ford Focus ECOnetic.

2009 Ford Focus Sedan

The new Ford Focus Sedan retains the strengths of its predecessor but gains the new Focus 'kinetic design' exterior and high quality interior with a profusion of exciting driver assistance features and technology usually only seen in the larger car segment.Customers can choose from four distinct series: the well equipped Ambiente entry model with an impressive number of standard safety and driver assistance features, followed by the Trend with higher specification, ascending to the classic luxury of the Ghia and modern 'techno' feel of the Titanium series.Customers can further enhance and personalise their vehicles with optional 'X' packs for the Ghia and Titanium models, and a variety of themed option packs targeted to specific customer needs - Sport, Comfort, Style and Business (availability depends on market) all of which are applicable to all four series options.'Kinetic Design' Styling"The new Ford Focus provides the ideal template for applying Ford of Europe's 'kinetic design' styling," said Stefan Lamm, Ford of Europe's head of exterior design. "For the first time in Ford's C class segment, using the Ford Focus, we have incorporated full and muscular surfaces, bespoke styling and our trapezoidal signature features. Full wheelarches draw the eye to the wheels and underline Ford's status as a leader in driving dynamics."The interior styling of the new Focus also received a fresh approach with bold design statements, high quality finishes and hard-wearing materials all completed with a high level of craftsmanship. A rigid reinforced passenger safety cell is the starting point. All new Ford Focus Sedan models have four standard airbags and active systems include ESP - in the majority of European markets - EBA and ABS. Passive systems also include a stroking steering column, neck injury protection, pedals that decouple from the footwell area and anti-submarining seats to prevent the driver and passengers from slipping beneath their safety belts. All safety belts have three-way fitment with the front seats also benefiting from pre-tensioners and beltminder alert. The outboard seats on the rear bench are pre-equipped for ISOFIX. The facility for front airbag deactivation enables a child seat to be carried on the front passenger seat."The safety of the previous Focus was recognised in both Europe and China when it achieved a highly coveted five star EuroNCAP occupant safety rating," said Herrmann. "Despite this achievement we have added more new systems to the new model - ESP is now offered as standard in the majority of EU markets and our emergency hazard warning light activation system is also standard in all markets. This latter feature has already been used on our large and luxury cars, and has proved its effectiveness in helping to prevent rear end collisions."Wide Powertrain ChoiceA full range of Duratec petrol and Duratorq diesel engines are available for the new Ford Focus Sedan. 2009 Ford iosis MAX Concept

Ford iosis MAX Concept is a concept study for the next generation of Ford's compact multi-activity vehicle (MAV) as well as a glimpse at the design direction Martin Smith and his team are taking for the company's next generation global C-car family. Ford is unveiling the third in its series of exciting iosis 'kinetic design' bespoke concept cars at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. The Ford iosis MAX Concept features striking exterior and interior designs based on a fresh interpretation of Ford's kinetic design form language. It is a dynamic MAV and showcases new levels of efficiency and flexibility. The car's dramatic looks are complemented by innovative solutions which enhance its practicality and environmental performance. These include new door opening concepts, lightweight materials, advanced aerodynamics, and a preview of the European development of Ford's global EcoBoost petrol engine technology coming in 2010.Coupled to this clean and lean engine are the recently introduced and acclaimed Ford PowerShift transmission, plus a new Ford Auto-Start-Stop system due for production in 2010."The Ford iosis MAX Concept marks the next stage in the evolution of kinetic design, and showcases a number of affordable petrol engine technologies that will make a difference to the environment and our customers' pockets," says Martin Smith, Ford of Europe's Executive Design Director."Our designers have stretched themselves beyond the two previous iosis concepts, and have applied kinetic design form language to a MAV format vehicle," adds Smith. "The Ford iosis MAX Concept proves that cars in the compact MAV class can have emotive, dynamic styling without sacrificing their traditional virtues of practicality or efficiency - something that the larger and revolutionary S-MAX has already demonstrated.""Although the Ford iosis MAX Concept isn't a forerunner to a specific production vehicle, it clearly highlights how kinetic design is evolving and can be applied with stunning results to all vehicles in the Ford portfolio."Exciting, dynamic designLike all kinetic design vehicles, the exciting shape of the Ford iosis MAX Concept conveys 'energy in motion' through its athletic stance and muscular surfacing. The design team also sought to create a strong impression of lightness and efficiency. This was achieved through the concept's sleek, sporting and aerodynamic profile, which provides a clear contrast to the more boxy approach adopted by many vehicles in the compact MAV segment. The feeling of lightness is reinforced by the extensive use of glass in the vehicle, with the steeply raked front screen flowing back in one piece to the tailgate, revealing the skeletal roof structure underneath. The visual excitement of the concept's exterior is also transferred to its interior design. The cabin extends some of the kinetic design themes with complex shapes and graphic forms which complement the expressive style used on the outside of the vehicle.Advanced materials are combined with innovative solutions like the 'floating' seat design to create an overwhelming feeling of space and lightness for the occupants.New style for Compact MAVsThe primary objective for the Ford iosis MAX Concept exterior design team was to create an exciting new style for compact MAV format vehicles by applying kinetic design principles."We were convinced that we could use our kinetic design form language to develop a C-segment MAV that was sporty, dynamic and desirable," explains Stefan Lamm, Ford of Europe's chief exterior designer. "The Ford iosis MAX Concept takes the core kinetic design elements and extends them to a new level, with a totally fresh execution which is not only stylish and innovative, but functional too."The front of the Ford iosis MAX Concept is dominated by the bold trapezoidal lower grille, which is now a key part of the Ford brand identity. For the first time, however, the grille features a distinctive new treatment with three horizontal chrome-rimmed bars, giving the vehicle's face a more dynamic and imposing feel. The dynamic character of the design is reinforced by the coupé-like side profile, with its striking new window line shape - the daylight opening graphic - and rakish C-pillar design. The C-pillars, with their highly original 'flying buttress' design, also deliver significant functional benefits. The pillars act as spoilers, channelling airflow as close as possible to the tailgate glass for optimum aerodynamic efficiency. The pillars work in combination with the dramatic looking aerodynamic spoiler which is centrally mounted at the rear of the roof structure, with its wings cantilevered above the tailgate glass.Imaginative details catch the eye all around the vehicle, including the striking new graphics for the front and rear lamps, stylish LED lighting strips in the rocker panels, and stunning 19-inch alloy wheels with a lightweight two-piece construction.Dramatic interior environmentThe Ford iosis MAX Concept interior presents a bold evolution of the kinetic design language used on the exterior, incorporating dynamic shapes and advanced materials to create a dramatic interior environment which is light, spacious and expressive."The Ford iosis MAX Concept shows how affordable family vehicles can have interiors which are practical and comfortable, yet still highly desirable," says Ernst Reim, Ford of Europe's chief interior designer. "Our vision looks beyond normal automotive processes, taking inspiration from modernist architecture, lightweight construction technologies and even the sporting world."The cabin design features strong dynamic lines, very expressive surfaces and an inherent sense of lightness. The instrument panel is a key element, having a slim, muscular shape which 'reaches out' to the body sides, suspended above the floor like a gymnast gripping rings. At each end of the panel, grab handles spiral down into the doors, creating the impression of a vortex spinning from an aircraft wing tip.The innovative use of shapes and materials is also reflected in the centre console, which has a smooth plexiglass surface which rolls down from the instrument panel like a ribbon and flows through to the rear of the passenger compartment. The whole of the console surface acts as a touch-screen display to control the vehicle's infotainment systems, similar to the approach used on the latest mobile phones. The lower console is supported on a spine-like bridge which runs the full length of the interior from the bulkhead through to the load area. The four individual seats are also cantilevered from the bridge, allowing for a completely uninterrupted floor and giving occupants the sensation that they are 'floating on air'.To reinforce the impression of space and lightness the seats themselves are constructed from a stylish lightweight carbon fibre skeleton, with inner panels constructed from nylon mesh inserts.Warm luminous colour paletteWarm luminous grey hues were selected for the Ford iosis MAX Concept interior, complementing the striking pearlescent 'Limelight' colour of the exterior, while at the same time creating a spacious and airy ambience. However, small details are picked out in bright cadmium yellow to add visual impact and stress the dynamic character of the shapes and graphics.Although the interior has advanced lightweight materials, imaginative use of textures and surface finishes allows many of the parts to combine a technical feel with more sensual natural characteristics."For the Ford iosis MAX Concept we wanted to achieve a more futuristic interpretation of kinetic design through a creative blend of lightweight materials and sophisticated textures and colours," says Ruth Pauli, chief designer for colour and materials, Ford of Europe. "The contrast between different materials and the use of subtle three-dimensional effects help to create a unique interior environment."An example of the original approach used in the Ford iosis MAX Concept is the special geometric surface texture used to emphasise the taut, muscular shape of the instrument panel. The geometric elements are stretched and distorted to reflect the panel's complex form, highlighting the tension in the design.

2009 Ford Mustang Glass Roof

The 2009 Ford Glass Roof Mustang provides a third roof option for customers and responds to their growing desire for more natural light. Production of large sunroofs has increased nearly 200 percent in North America since 2003, according to Just-auto. The growth is driven, in part, by consumers' daily commute time. The number of consumers with commutes lasting more than 60 minutes grew by almost 50 percent between 1990 and 2000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The new glass roof will be available as an option on both the V-6 Mustang and Mustang GT beginning next summer. At $1,995, the new roof provides customers a less expensive option than a convertible, without compromising the coupe's versatility, headroom or climate-controlled environment."Mustang is an icon in our product lineup, and we are committed to keeping Mustang news fresh every year," said Derrick Kuzak, Ford's group vice president, Global Product Development. "As the automotive landscape becomes increasingly competitive, features such as a panoramic glass roof will help differentiate our products from the competition."Nearly one out of every two sports cars sold in America is a Mustang, and it remains the best-selling convertible. The new glass roof addresses the fact that 62 percent of buyers in the sports car segment are interested in a sunroof or moonroof on their next vehicle, according to J.D. Power and Associates research.Mustang's Glass Roof is made of tinted privacy glass, which reduces both infrared rays and vehicle cool-down time by 50 percent. A manual roller blind is built in, allowing owners to further control exposure on sunny days. The specially formulated glass also protects interior fabric material from solar radiation deterioration and discoloration by reducing solar light transmittance. To help improve acoustics and Mustang's interior quietness, the glass also features a layer of vinyl that reduces noise, vibration and harshness. The glass roof Mustang is built like a coupe and has been developed to maintain the structural integrity of Mustang. The glass itself is safety glass, meaning that it shatters without sharp or jagged edges, like other automotive glass.Glass Roof Mustangs will be assembled at the Automotive Alliance International plant in Flat Rock, Mich. The unique glass is installed at Ford's adjacent vehicle personalization facility.Like its coupe and convertible counterparts, the Glass Roof Mustang has endured a battery of tests measuring quality and craftsmanship.During the development phase, production-level prototypes ran through a rigorous prove-out, including various water, air leakage, durability, squeak and rattle and vehicle dynamics tests. Top quality drives the development team - as evidenced by Mustang's first-in-its segment ranking in the 2007 J.D. Power and Associates IQS, VDS and APEAL studies."Quality is a continuous process. The whole team is passionate about it, which results in our paying attention to the smallest details," says Paul Randle, chief nameplate engineer. "Our owners have high expectations, and we always want to meet them - with strong features like this new roof option, quality and performance."

2009 Ford Flex

Ford Motor Company redefines the modern American family journey with the introduction of the 2009 Ford Flex, a full-size crossover that sets a new standard for style, features, functionality and comfort in the U.S. industry's hottest segment."The new Ford Flex crossover is a game-changer. It's the first vehicle of its kind that combines seating for seven, interior spaciousness and surprising features with a striking design that looks great on the road and at home for today's modern American families," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas, as he revealed the new vehicle at the 2007 New York International Auto Show. "The Flex builds on Ford's leadership in crossover vehicles, which is the fastest-growing part of the auto market today."On sale in the summer of 2008, the Flex is arriving as crossovers continue to outpace even the remarkable growth of SUVs during the 1990s and minivans of the 1980s.Last year, crossovers surpassed traditional SUV sales for the first time, and they are trending toward annual crossover sales of 3 million units by the end of the decade. Such growth likely will make crossovers the first or second largest vehicle segment in the U.S."Flex is another example of Ford creating more of the products that our customers really want," Fields said. "Ford intends to define crossover vehicles this decade just as we did SUVs in the 1990s."The Flex joins the Edge and Taurus X in Ford's expanding crossover lineup. Ford's success with crossover utility vehicles is substantial. In March alone, the company's U.S. crossover sales were up more than 40 percent over last year - led by the success of the new Edge.Redefining the Family JourneyBold, expressive design and exclusive innovations define the new Flex."The Ford Flex has the power to move people emotionally as well as physically," said J Mays, Ford's group vice president of Design and chief creative officer."This crossover has been created for people who know it's the journey - not the destination - that matters most," Mays added. "Its upright, upscale design, versatility and clever touches allow Ford Flex to stand out in an increasingly crowded sea of crossovers."The Ford Flex brings to production the Ford Fairlane concept vehicle that turned heads at the 2005 North American International Auto Show in Detroit."Flex is following in the tire tracks, so to speak, of Ford vehicles like the Taurus, Explorer and Mustang. It's the next iconic Ford," said Peter Horbury, Ford's executive director of Design for The Americas. "It shatters today's image of people movers."Flex's signature exterior design includes:Ford's signature chrome horizontal three-bar grille, which builds on the family "face" that defines the Ford Edge and Taurus X crossovers, as well as the Ford Fusion sedan.A unique, all black "greenhouse" - defined as the windshield, rear and side windows, and the pillars separating and connecting them to the roof. The design brings together seamlessly the body with the available multi-panel roof. Customers can pair a White Suede or Silver roof option with one of Flex's 10 available exterior colors or choose a body-color roof.Standard 18-inch or available 19-inch bright aluminum wheels, which plant the new crossover firmly on the road.Flex's integrated rocker panel design, which eliminates the need for customers to step over the rocker panel when getting in and out of the vehicle.Edge-inspired taillamps, which are outlined in chrome. Flex Limited models have LED taillamps and a brushed satin finish metal appliqué spanning the center of the liftgate.Interior QualityInside, Ford Flex delivers textures, features and functionality - including segment exclusives - that create an ideal atmosphere for discerning customers and their families."More than 90 percent of crossover customers make their vehicle purchases based in part on the overall quality of interiors," said Kate Pearce, Flex marketing manager. 2009 Ford F-150 Platinum

The vision for Ford's truck team was clear: Redesign America's favorite truck inside and out to give customers unrivaled capability, unprecedented choice and a host of smart, game-changing features. The result is the new 2009 Ford F-150, the new benchmark in the full-size pickup segment from the industry's truck leader - which has built more than 33 million F-Series pickups since 1948.The Ford truck team adopted a holistic, 360-degree approach to revamping the new 2009 F-150 - from its segment-first features to the tough new exterior highlighted by a dramatic three-bar grille and more spacious, flexible and refined interior, to the unparalleled choice of cab styles and trim levels - including a new Platinum series that redefines truck luxury. The improvements are just as dramatic beneath the sheet metal. A new high-strength, lighter-weight chassis is the backbone that allows this tough truck to deliver more horsepower, better fuel economy and safety, and additional towing and payload capacity."The Ford F-150 is an American icon," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas. "Ford is the truck leader, and F-150 customers expect and demand the best truck on the market."Our team not only met those expectations, they exceeded them with the new 2009 F-150," Fields added. "With Ford's product-led transformation in full swing, the new F-150 could not have come at a better time - for Ford and for our customers."In all, more than 1,000 Ford engineers, designers, researchers and others worked together to develop the new 2009 F-150. The team drew inspiration by listening to Ford's large customer base."Before we started working on the new truck, we continued the conversation with people who use these trucks every day for work and play," said Matt O'Leary, chief engineer of the 2009 F-150. "We went to their ranches, their job sites and their homes, making sure we crafted features that would improve their ownership experiences and, really, their lives."The results will be clear to customers when the new 2009 F-150 rolls off assembly lines at Ford's Dearborn (Mich.) Truck Plant and Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Mo. - and as the new F-150 goes on sale in dealer showrooms this fall. Most CapableFord F-150 customers tackle tough jobs when they work and play, and they need a full-size truck that rises to the challenge. The current F-150 is already the most capable truck on the market, but Ford's truck team drove capability to new levels with the 2009 model. The improvement starts with the 2009 F-150's fully boxed frame constructed with hydro-formed and high strength steel side rails. The lightweight frame delivers 10 percent more torsional rigidity, which delivers increased durability and safety. The sturdy chassis also paved the way for the new 2009 F-150 to improve upon the current model's class-leading towing and hauling capability across all cab configurations."The new, improved chassis helps deliver additional payload and towing capacity as well as improved fuel economy, which we know is top of mind for customers," O'Leary said. Thanks to the strength of the frame and comprehensive package of standard safety equipment, including side-curtain air bags, the new F-150 is engineered to earn top safety ratings from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.Complementing the modern frame is a high-tech suite of features that ensures the F-150 is sure-footed and safe in all driving and load conditions. The new F-150 offers segment-first standard AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control) and Trailer Sway Control plus available Rearview Camera Assist as well as Integrated Trailer Brake Controller a segment-first on light-duty pickups. The interior of the new 2009 F-150 SuperCrew offers more usable space for moving more people and gear thanks to a 6-inch stretch that improves rear seat legroom and cargo capacity. A mechanically articulated second-row seat flips up and out of the way. Combined with a truly flat load floor, the feature gives the new SuperCrew class leading 57.6 cubic feet of space behind the front seats and can accommodate items up to 47.9 inches tall, such as flat-screen TV that needs to be hauled from the electronics store to home. Most ChoiceFord's F-Series may be America's best-selling vehicle, but one-size-fits-all does not apply to today's truck buyer. From the Texas rancher to the general contractor in Florida, F-150 customers have different needs and tastes. In response, Ford's truck team designed a truck that offers more choice than any full-size truck on the market. With three cab styles, four box options and seven unique trim levels, the F-150 comes in 35 different configurations to meet the widest range of customer needs and wants - all delivered with quality.Customers can choose from the no-fuss XL workhorse, to the sporty STX and off-road capable FX4, to the mid-range XLT. For those looking for tough luxury, Ford offers the high-end Lariat and King Ranch F-150 models.New for the 2009 F-150 is the Platinum series, the most luxurious F-150 ever and the answer to a perennial question: Just how high-end do truck customers want to go?The striking F-150 Platinum features a satin chrome grille with fine mesh inserts, 10-way captain's chairs upholstered with top-quality leather, tuxedo stitching and embroidered logos on the seatbacks. Satin gloss Lacrosse Ash wood grain accents and real brushed aluminum panels give the dash, center console and doors an upscale look and feel. Standard 20-inch, 16-spoke polished aluminum wheels give the truck a commanding presence on the road. With more customers interested in personalizing their trucks, Ford is offering the largest selection of wheels in the segment with 13 offerings across the F-150 lineup.Under the hood, the new F-150 will be powered by three modern V-8 engines, mated to either a 4-speed or a new fuel-efficient 6-speed automatic transmission. The engines include:5.4-liter, 3-valve Triton V-8, which has been optimized for better performance with improved horsepower and torque, and is capable of running on E85 (85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline), regular unleaded gasoline or any blend in between.4.6-liter, 3-valve V-8, which is new for F-150. Both the 5.4-liter and 4.6-liter 3-valve V-8's utilize open valve injection. This unique feature improves the flow of fuel into the combustion chamber, which results in an increase in horsepower during towing and reduced emissions.4.6-liter, 2-valve V-8, a third V-8 choice in the line-up that delivers more horsepower with the same fuel economy performance as the outgoing truck's V-6.This all-V-8 engine lineup delivers a fleet-average 1 mpg improvement in fuel economy versus the outgoing F-150.Diesel and EcoBoost gas turbo direct injection engines are planned for F-150 in 2010 as well. Most 'Smart' FeaturesFord's researchers spent thousands of hours listening to truck buyers to gain inspiration for a host of smart new features for the new 2009 Ford F-150.It starts with the clever interior, which features a flow-through console that has been lengthened by approximately 2 inches and is large enough to stow two or more laptop computers. Special ridges are molded into the edges of the bin to accommodate file folders. The console also has a multi-tiered, removable tray and locks to protect valuables.More than 30 storage areas are built into the interior, ranging from a bin on the top of the instrument panel to a number of small spaces designed to accommodate tools like cell phones, MP3 players, PDAs and gate access cards.A redesigned, more ergonomic shifter remains on the console. New, larger buttons and switches are ergonomically designed and within easy reach and view of the driver. A USB port and auxiliary MP3 player input are conveniently mounted on the dash. Two 12-volt outlets are located on the dash and center console.Even the pickup box on the new F-150 breaks the mold with clever and capable features the competition cannot match. The class-leading cargo capacity of 65.5 cubic feet is only the beginning of the story. The F-150's pickup box is made easier to use, more flexible and accessible with such new features as Ford's industry-exclusive Tailgate and Box Side Steps, Stowable Bed Extender and Cargo Management System."These features are impressive on their own. For the customer who uses their pickup box five, six or seven times a day, these innovations together make a huge difference," O'Leary said. That same kind of logic drove the team to include other clever features on the truck, including Ford's Easy Fuel™ Capless Fuel-Filler System. When fueling is completed and the nozzle is removed, the system automatically seals shut, reducing emissions. The new 2009 Ford-150 also will allow truck customers to be connected to the world like never before. Ford has been working with Microsoft, Sony and SIRIUS to offer customers leading technologies to help them stay connected with their lives while on the road including:Industry-exclusive Ford SYNC™, a voice-activated, hands-free, in-vehicle communications and entertainment system offers even more functionality for the 2009 model year, with 911 Assist and Vehicle Health Report.SIRIUS Travel Link™ that when combined with voice activated navigation will provide users with a suite of data services including real-time traffic, coast-to-coast weather conditions and fuel price information for over 120,000 gas stations.Voice-activated navigation that integrates several functions, including voice recognition destination entry, climate control and SIRIUS satellite radio into one easy-to-use system, displaying them on an 8-inch touch screen display.Sony audio system that features 700 watts of power, 5.1 surround sound and 10 Sony speakers and amps and is certified by Sony to deliver a unique, rich listening experience."We know how important the F-150 is to our customers," said O'Leary. "With the new 2009 F-150, we are delivering a top-quality truck lineup that is second-to-none in capability, features and a range of choices that will continue to make Ford America's favorite truck."

2009 Ford Focus RS

The legendary Ford Ford RS performance car brand is returning in the shape of the exciting new Ford Focus RS, which will be previewed on July 22 at the 2008 London International Motor Show. The new Ford Focus RS will go on sale in early 2009 and is being created by a small team of dedicated engineers, under the direction of Jost Capito, Ford of Europe's Vehicle Line Director for Performance Vehicles. For performance road car enthusiasts, the new model will mark a welcome return for the Ford RS badge. This will be the second Focus model to carry the RS mantle and promises another exciting chapter in an exciting 40-year story that began in Germany in the late 1960s and gained momentum across Europe with the launch of the 1970 Escort RS1600.Capito said: "We want the new Ford Focus RS to be a serious high performance car - as much a car for driving enthusiasts as the one before it and classic Ford RS models of the past. We're staying true to the core RS principles of an exciting, yet affordable performance road car you can live with every day."Authentic RS presence and styleBefore it even turns a wheel, the new Ford Focus RS exudes the presence, sporty style and lowered, 'meaner' appearance expected of a genuine Ford RS. Overt performance styling details mix with subtle revisions to create a planted, powerful stance and the promise of an exciting drive. The London show car previews the design intent for a final production vehicle, though as development work continues, some final details may change before volume production begins. The vehicle is finished in a special bright green paint with inlaid metallic flake, a striking, modern interpretation of the 1970s Le Mans Green of the Escort RS1600 era.The vibrant exterior colour is contrasted with a number of performance styling details highlighted in gloss 'piano black', including the strip at the leading edge of the bonnet, the deep housings for the integrated front fog lamps and door mirrors with integrated side indicators.Front and rear quarter panels have been revised to incorporate wider wheel arches and a wider track, complemented by revised, deeper side rocker mouldings. In another visual reminder of the car's performance potential, triangular, RS-badged vents sit behind the front wheel arches. Two classic-style bonnet louvres are both a styling hint at the power beneath and a practical requirement, maintaining correct system temperatures. The completely new front bumper design for Ford Focus RS incorporates a deep front airdam with a large, mesh lower grille in an extended trapezoid. Stylish and practical, this prominent feature represents the latest Ford 'kinetic design' face and also is finished in piano black. Above, chromed xenon headlamps stand out like cat's eyes and are framed by matt-black housings with unique additional vents running underneath. At the rear, a deep new rear bumper incorporates a large venturi tunnel to its lower edge with small vents at each corner of the bumper, emphasizing the car's width. Two impressive chromed exhaust tailpipes sit each side of the black venturi, creating a purposeful rear view for the car.Above, a unique, twin-element, black RS rear spoiler sits at the Focus RS' roofline, echoing both RS models of the past and the World Rally-winning Focus WRC that has been its inspiration."We believe it's vitally important that a Focus RS looks like both a Focus and an RS - it needs to be individual, distinctive and overt in its performance styling, but it also needs to show a clear progression from and relationship to Focus ST", said Stefan Lamm, Chief Exterior Designer, Ford of Europe.

2009 Ford F-150 SFE

America's best-selling pickup, the Ford F-Series, is raising the bar once again - this time with unsurpassed fuel efficiency on the new 2009 Ford F-150, thanks to significant miles per gallon improvement across the entire F-150 lineup. On sale in October 2008, the new Ford F-150 offers fuel economy that has improved an average of 8 percent across the entire lineup as a result of a wide-range of engineering enhancements. The fuel economy gains reach as high as 12 percent versus the prior model year on Ford F-150 models equipped with the high-volume 3-valve, 5.4-liter V-8 engine. At the same time, the new F-150 delivers class-leading towing capability of 11,300 pounds and hauling capacity of 3,030 pounds - a combination no other competitor can match. In addition, Ford is announcing the introduction of the new Ford F-150 SFE "superior fuel economy" edition delivering up to 21 miles per gallon on the highway while still providing 7,500 pounds of towing capability - fuel economy that is unsurpassed in the full-size pickup segment."Ford has committed to have the best or equal to the best fuel economy with every new product we introduce, and we are delivering with the new F-150," said Matt O'Leary, Ford F-150 chief engineer. "Fuel economy has moved from 10th to third place among pickup buyers' top purchase considerations - right behind durability and value. The new F-150 delivers on all three as the industry leader."Ford F-150 SFEThe new SFE package will be available on F-150 SuperCrew XL and XLT 4X2 vehicles with 4.6-liter, 3-valve V-8 engines and 5.5-foot beds. The Ford F-150 SFE pickup will achieve 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. The SFE package trucks also feature a new fuel-efficient six-speed automatic transmission, a 3.15:1 rear axle and 18-inch chrome clad aluminum wheels with low rolling resistance P265/60R18 all-season tires."Earning the trust of so many truck customers during the past 31 years has taught us a lot about what they want and value from their F-150," O'Leary said. "In the past, there was a tradeoff - more fuel economy meant less capability and vice versa. With the new F-150, we didn't accept tradeoffs. We delivered capability and fuel economy."The SFE package will be a no-cost option on XLT SuperCrew pickups with the chrome package and will cost $1,095 when ordered on XL SuperCrew pickups with the decor package.Fuel Economy throughout the LineupThe 8 percent improvement in fuel economy across the entire lineup of V-8 F-150s is the result of using lightweight ultra-high-strength steel to lighten the truck up to 100 pounds versus the current model and aerodynamic refinements. The new F-150 is now best-in-class for aerodynamics. The new F-150 SuperCrew 4X2 with a 5.5-foot box has the lowest coefficient of drag - 0.403 - in the segment. That's 6 percent lower than a comparable 2008 Ford F-150.Key aero improvements for the new F-150 include:A new chamfered shape to the rear of the cab, which incorporated the center-high-mount stop lamp. This shape helps direct aerodynamic wake over the pickup box efficiently. The top of the tailgate, which angles outward to create a bold lip. This wider surface at the top of the tailgate works with the cab chamfering to direct airflow over the box efficiently. The front bumper valence and spoiler design, which has been improved to better manage airflow underneath the truck without compromising off-roading.In addition, as part of the fuel economy improvements, Ford's powertrain team delivered technology upgrades to make the F-150 powertrains more efficient. The new six-speed automatic transmission offers a wider gear ratio span than four-speed transmissions, allowing engineers the flexibility to have responsiveness in low gears and better fuel economy in the taller gears. The new double-overdrive gearbox is designed to contribute a 4 to 6 percent fuel economy improvement. Both the 5.4-liter and 4.6-liter 3-valve V-8 engines utilize open valve injection. This unique feature improves the air/fuel charge conditions in the combustion chamber, allowing greater spark advance at higher loads and engine speeds. This delivers increased horsepower during towing and higher rpm operations, lower emissions and more efficient use of fuel. The Ford F-150 also regulates gas consumption by using aggressive deceleration fuel shut-off. The fuel shut-off is automatic and requires no unusual actions from the driver. When the driver releases the accelerator pedal, the system temporarily turns off the fuel. The flow of fuel seamlessly resumes when the truck reaches a low speed or the driver accelerates again. To prevent engine hesitation normally associated with fuel interruption, Ford's powertrain team developed proprietary software to integrate the technology with the F-150's powertrains.

2009 Ford Ka

The new Ford Ka retains all of the qualities which made the Ford Ka brand so popular – compact size, great looks, lively dynamics and fun personality – but presents them in a fresh new package.
The exciting new Ford Ka made its global debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. It replaces the iconic original Ford Ka, which brought new levels of style and enjoyment to the small-car market when it was launched in 1996.With its striking interior and exterior design, outstanding dynamics and unique character, the Ford Ka sets a new standard for affordable small cars. Practical, safe, cheap to run, and friendly to the environment, this bold new model starts a new chapter of the Ford Ka success story.Production of the new Ford Ka commences in the autumn of 2008, and the vehicle will go on sale in most major European markets in late 2008/early 2009.Stylish and fashionableWith the introduction of new Ka, Ford has extended its kinetic design language to the smallest car range. The new vehicle has a stylish, fashionable appearance which combines Ford’s latest design thinking with some of the youthful and cheeky spirit which made the original Ford Ka so popular.Designed for a young target audience who enjoy making a bold statement in their choice of car, the new Ford Ka has the same compact proportions as its predecessor, but with a chunky and expressive style all of its own.A number of visual cues from the outgoing car ensure that the new design is recognisably a Ford Ka, yet it has the dynamic qualities which mark it out as a member of the kinetic design family.Bold, colourful interiorThe interior of the new Ford Ka has a stylish, dynamic design, just like the exterior. 2009 Ford Fiesta 5-door

The all-new Ford Fiesta is the latest application of the company's kinetic design philosophy, building on the exciting momentum of Ford's distinctive iosis and iosis X concept cars and the premium feel of latest-generation production models like the new Mondeo and Focus, bringing the modern Ford of Europe family style to the small car segment.Bold GraphicsSince the iosis concept vehicle introduced kinetic design in 2005, each new Ford has been created in a new interpretation of this form language, translating the trademark bold graphic elements and proportions to create a family of distinctive models.Ford of Europe's Executive Director of Design, Martin Smith, uses expressions like 'precision sculpted', 'agile muscularity' and 'toned athleticism' to describe the Ford design philosophy that has now created new Ford Fiesta. However, this does not mean a 'one size fits all' approach. Martin Smith explains: "Kinetic design is not just a matter of 'cut and paste' from one vehicle to the next; each is a new interpretation of the fundamental design elements. A kinetic small car can emphasise different elements of the form language to a larger car, and to different degrees."The result is a new Ford Fiesta that joins a family of vehicles immediately identifiable as new generation Fords, yet with distinctive character to appeal to their target audiences. New Ford Fiesta asserts its own air of confidence, stylishness and individuality."We have a kinetic family look now - each individual, yet instantly identifiable as part of the new generation of Ford vehicles," explains Smith.

2009 Ford Fiesta S

In a blast of Passion Orange, Ford proudly revealed its all-new global small car - the Ford Fiesta - as a vibrant five-door hatch. The all-new Ford Fiesta has been reinvented for a new generation of customers. Designed and developed in Europe for sale in Europe, Asia, South Africa, Australia and the Americas between 2008 and 2010, the all-new Fiesta is the first major product of Ford's new global product development process. The all-new Ford Fiesta's dynamic character is accentuated by its bold kinetic design. Its distinct character is further accentuated with major strides in craftsmanship, quality of materials and product choice while continuing to represent Ford Fiesta's traditional strengths of practicality, value for money, agility and safety. All- new Ford Fiesta clearly embodies the exterior hallmarks of kineticdesign, which has so convincingly infused emotion into the core of the Ford range in Europe and Asia. The reveal in Europe in March of the three-door and five-door Fiesta hatch and now the China reveal of the five-door Fiesta hatch confirm that all-new Ford Fiesta will bring the most appealing elements of Verve Concept to production reality. "I've been saying just wait for the all-new Fiesta to see how kinetic design can be translated into a small car," said Martin Smith, Executive Director of Design for Ford of Europe. "Now the wait is over. New Fiesta evokes an instant emotional response that says 'I want one' which extends the traditionally practical values of the Fiesta brand to appeal to a new, style-conscious generation of small car buyers." Listening to Fiesta's Audience Market research is an important tool, but actually listening to the target Fiesta buyer was a key to developing the initial Verve Concepts and the resulting Fiesta. "Our customers told us the qualities they wanted in a new small car. They told us they wanted it to be bold, exciting, fun and they wanted to be proud to own and drive it," said John Parker, Ford Motor Company executive vice president, Asia Pacific and Africa. "We're hearing now from our potential customers that they are surprised and delighted. We're confident a new generation of small car buyers will take a close look at the all-new Ford Fiesta." Fiesta Has Global Plans The all-new Ford Fiesta is closely related to the exciting trio of Verve Concepts that were revealed globally at 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show as a three-door hatch, at 2007 Guangzhou Motor Show in China as a four-door notchback, and at 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit as another iteration of a four-door notchback. Both four-door Verve Concept sedans were tailored to regional market tastes.
